麝香猫对喜爱咖啡的人来说，喝上一杯牙买加的蓝山并无特别，但倘若能喝到一杯Kopi Luwak（又名麝香猫咖啡），那可真是此生无憾了。 这种咖啡有个别称，叫做“有屎以来最香的大便”，名字虽然不太雅，却是事实。它是印尼苏门答腊岛上一种叫做“麝香猫”的树栖野生动物拉出来的便便，当地的农民通常把发现“麝香猫”便便当作是上天的恩赐，因为并不是所有“麝香猫”的粪便都能被幸运地找到。一旦找到几颗这样的“咖啡豆”，当地人就会弯腰躬身地把它们捡起来，小心地收集，再经过挑选、晾晒、除臭、加工烘焙等数道工序，制造出全世界最稀有、最独特、也最昂贵的咖啡。

猫屎咖啡，产于印尼，世界最贵咖啡的一种。印尼种植大量的咖啡作物，有种野生的叫做麝香猫的动物，杂食动物，尖尖的嘴巴，深灰色的皮毛。最喜欢的食物就是新鲜的咖啡豆，咖啡豆通过在其体内的发酵和消化，最终成为猫的粪便排除来。粪便就是一粒粒的咖啡豆，也成为世界上最昂贵的粪便。由于数量非常的稀少，所以价格非常的昂贵。
经过加工和烘焙，猫屎咖啡成为奢侈的咖啡饮品，流传到世界各地的奢侈王国。当地的咖啡农，为了追逐高额利润，将野生的麝香猫捉回家中饲养，以便可以产出更多的猫屎咖啡。但是，养殖麝香猫产出的猫屎咖啡，成色味道也会相应的逊色很多。即使是这样，这种咖啡的产量仍然十分稀少，并不是所有喜欢咖啡的人可以消费的起的。
麝香猫
这种咖啡是来自一种叫Luwak 的动物排泄物（这种动物在印尼俗称麝香猫），虽然来自臭臭的便便，但喝一口只觉满口甘香，还有一阵难以形容的甘甜。这种野生麝香猫喜欢吃肥美多桨的咖啡果子，但坚硬的硬果核(生豆)无法消化，随粪便排出，清洗干净之后，就成为Kopi Luwak咖啡生豆！因此有许多人称它为”猫屎”咖啡。印度尼西亚人发现，经过麝香猫肠胃发酵的咖啡豆，特别浓稠香醇，于是搜集麝香猫排泄物，筛滤出 咖啡豆，冲泡来喝，由于产量稀少，并且发酵过程独特，风味和一般咖啡大异其趣。传统上，咖啡果子是透过水洗或日晒处理法，除去果皮、果肉和羊皮层，最后取 出咖啡豆，然而，Luwak却是利用体内自然发酵法，取出咖啡豆，因此有一股特殊风味。

Mountanos)指出，当初听到这种体内发酵咖啡，以为是业界笑话，并未当真，后来在《国家地理杂志》又看到Kopi Luwak的特别报导，才对她产生兴趣，整整花了七年工夫才找到稳定的供货来源，开始少量引进美国。这种咖啡的风味如何?一般而言，印度尼西亚咖啡带有泥土味和中药味，稠度也高居各洲之冠，但是Kopi Luwak的土骚味和稠度则更强，稠度几乎接近糖浆，香味很特殊，如果你原本就不喜欢印度尼西亚咖啡，肯定更讨厌Kopi Luwak，如果你偏好陈年豆的土腥味，可能会爱上这种另类咖啡。品尝过Kopi Luwak的专家，提出两极化评价，有人比喻为人间极品咖啡。虽然是极品，但肯不肯花1400元去喝一杯猫屎咖啡，就是个人喜好。
