Almost all Galapagos coffee beckons from the island of San Cristobal. This Estate coffee is unique in being the only coffee grown on the island of Santa Cruz. Indeed, the coffee is produced from the same Bourbon variety coffee plants introduced by French agronomists in 1875. Crucially, Santa Cruz is lucky to enjoy a microclimate, situated as it is in the middle of the Galapagos group of islands, which intensifies the beans flavours.
Furthermore, Galapagos Islands ' law prohibits the use of chemicals and other pesticides, so Santa Cruz Estate coffee is an organic coffee. Organic agriculture is an important source of income for island residents, especially as fisheries become depleted, and organic crops help reduce the need to import so much fresh food and minimize the introduction of invasive species that can arrive in these shipments.
In fitting with its surroundings, Santa Cruz has a very aromatic fragrance and a light, soft flavour with mild acidity and strong tones of fruit and caramel.
