Huehuetenango is located in the highest and driest are of Guatemala. It is location makes it perfectly located for the warm winds from the Mexican mountains to swoop in, which protects the coffee farms from frost. Unusual for Guatemala the coffee is not grown on volcanic soil but on sandy-clay which gives this coffee some of it’s characters.

La Esperanza is a third generation family run farm which is located in the western highlands of Huehetenago. It was founded in 1956 by Mr. Heleodoro de Jesús Villatoro López. Ever since the start of this coffee farm the main focus for the family has been on quality and not quantity, which they have been very successful in achieving. The cherries are hand-picked and washed using Syphon equipment and ecological pulpers.
